Cycle Oregon Coming to Clarkston!

On September 13, 2,500 bicyclists and crew are coming to Clarkston. Tents will fill Parkway Elementary and the Clarkston High School baseball field. The main stage will be in Beachview Park, along with vendors of all sorts. Second Street will be closed during the event. Community members are encouraged to come and mingle amongst the cyclists. There will be live entertainment on the main stage that evening for your enjoyment.

Cycle Oregon is a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming individuals and communities through bicycling. Proceeds from the ride go to the Cycle Oregon Fund which helps preserve and protect the special places of Oregon and supports community development projects in the regions through which we ride.

Sixty eight percent of the riders are male, with 32 percent female. The average age of Cycle Oregon participants is 51 years old. Riders will be representing 47 states and six countries. Fifty percent of the participants earn an annual income of $90,000 or more

Cycle Oregon participants will leave Elgin, OR and ride to Enterprise on Sept. 12. From Enterprise, they will make the steep climb up Rattle Snake Grade to Clarkston on Sept. 13. Cyclists will leave Clarkston early in the morning on Sept. 14 and head to Waitsburg. From there, they’ll cycle to Pendleton on Sept. 16 and take in the action at the Pendleton Round up. The cyclists will finish out the route on Sept. 18 by heading back to Elgin.

The groups that are volunteering and working closely with Cycle Oregon are the Asotin Lions, Clarkston Rotary, Clarkston Lions, Clarkston School District, Friends of Asotin County Library, Clarkston Fire Rescue One Festival of Trees Group, Hells Canyon Visitor Bureau, and Clarkston Chamber of Commerce.

We are still looking for volunteers to help out in the Community Booth. Volunteers will be providing bicyclists with information about our community and stamping their “passports.” If you are interested in volunteering for a one or two hour shift, contact the Clarkston Chamber at 758.7712 or email info@clarkstonchamber.org.
